Matetic, Syrah 2018

Matetic are one of Chile's pioneers of biodynamic & organic winemaking, believing that farming with an acknowledgement of all the fauna & flora surrounding and inhabiting their vineyards benefits the wine - something we definitely agree with. Their vineyards in the Rosario Valley are located on the central coast of Chile, nestled between the wilds of the Pacific Ocean and heights of the Coastal Mountains; the ideal conditions to produce both red & white wines with incredible freshness, vibrancy and precision. Produced entirely from Syrah, this 2018 vintage is taken from the very best granite-based vineyards on the Matetic estate, and aged for 18 months in French oak prior to bottling. Deep and expressive, offering aromas of blackberry, violet, cracked pepper, and smoky spice. The palate is bold yet refined, with ripe black fruit framed by firm but polished tannins and a seam of vibrant acidity. Notes of dark chocolate, savoury herbs, and graphite add complexity, while the finish lingers with peppery energy. A powerful yet balanced wine with excellent ageing potential.
